The world could always use a little more kindness, so why not start by volunteering your time at a local organization? If you don’t think you have what it takes, think again. The main thing you need is time. In most cases, you can be trained to do whatever they need. Check out some of these volunteer opportunities in Naperville:
Naperville Public Library
You have probably checked out books from the library many times and maybe never stopped to think about who does all of the behind-the-scenes work. There are many volunteers who put in about 10,000 hours of volunteer time per year at the Naperville Public Library.
Your job will be pretty simple: work at the help desk, reshelve
As you can imagine, a place like Edward Hospital that is open 24 hours a day every day of the year and sees hundreds of patients a day requires a lot of caring people. The medical staff has so much stressful work to take care of that the hospital depends on dedicated volunteers to help patients and their family members. You may work at the welcome desk or even be a patient advocate. If it seems like an overwhelming job, don’t worry. There is an orientation, on-the-job training, and flexible scheduling. You can also apply online.
Western DuPage Special Recreation Association
There is always a need for volunteers with the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA). Participants in the programs through WDSRA have special needs and working with them may be one of the most fulfilling things you ever do. You can choose to help with one-time events, seasonal programs, ongoing projects, and even fundraisers. Whether you help in the office or on the field or court, you are making a difference in the lives of very special people.
We hope that 2019 is the best year yet! Volunteering in your community is a great way to make a difference in so many lives.
